The Wanderings of Odysseus-Reading Questions

Directions: Answer the following questions using complete sentences. Each answer should contain at least one quote from the story. Each response should be at least two to three sentences in length.
1. What happens to Odysseus at Thrace?
2. As a tempatation, what does the episode of the "lotus eaters" symbolize in terms of Odysseus's development as a hero?
3. How does Odysseus trick the Cyclops and escape with his men? How does Odysseus reveal his pride even as he and his men escape?
4. What step of the hero's journey does Odysseus's trip to the Underworld represent? Why is this trip important?
5. Why is it important that Odysseus face the challenge of the nobles upon returning home?

1. At Thrace Odysseus had to confront a one eyed cyclopes. The cyclopes was the son of Poseidon and had captured them inside his cave by putting a bolder infront of the entrance. The second day they were trapped they decided to stick a stick in the cyclopes eye and blinded him then the cyclopes maded the boulder. The crew members and Odysseus got out by going under sheep.
2.The episode of "lotus eaters " symbolizes in terms Odysseus development is that he is a quik thinker and brave.
3.Odysseus tricks the Cyclopes by stabing him in the eye and the Cyclopes opening the hole of the cave. They escaped by holding on to the bottom of the sheep.Odysseus reveals his pride when he screams at the Cyclopes and tells him that it was him who blinded hm and not the gods.
4.THe step of the hero's journey that Odysseus trip is a test .This trip is important because this will decide whether he goes back home or if he has to stay at Aeaea forever.
5.It is important to face the challenge of the nobles to get his land back .

1.Odysseus and his men went to an island where the cyclopes lives and they got stuck inside this cave and had no way to get out. So when the cyclopes went to sleep Odysseus and his men stabbed the cyclopes in his eye so he would not be able to see.
2.Odysseus is courageous and he is a fast thinker.
3.Odysseus tricks him by making him fall asleep then stabbing him in the eye so that he could open the hole from the cave and all his men hide under the sheeps so that they could escape.
4.the trip is important because he decides if he wants to go home or stay in Aeaea.
5.it's important to face the challenge of the nobles because he is fighing for his land.

F.MARQUEZ1.Odysseus had to confront an one eyed monster named cyclopes.Cyclopes was son of Poseidon and had captured Odysseus and his men in cave and put a big rock on the entrance so they would not escape.Odysseus and his men had made a big sharp stick,so they can stick it on Cyclopes's eye to blind him.they escaped by staying close to the sheep,so he could not see them.
2.The episode
"Lotus Eater" developes in how Odysseus is very smart,and very quick even though he has to much pride in himself.
3.Odysseus had made a trick on Cyclopes for them to ascape by blinding him with a large sharp pole.Odysseus reveals his pride when he yells to Cyclopes that he was the one who had blinded him not the gods.
4.This is like a test for Odysseus because it determines if he will make it home or stay.
5.It is very important to face the nobles to be to get back to his land.

2 that odysseus is a very wise man duh!
3 he and his men stick a sharp pike in his eye(ha ha) and then they get on the bottom of the sheep and escape because all the cyclopes feels is a bunch of sheep instead <(i think spelt that wrong:)of the men under them.
4 so he could see the dead seer i forgot his name it started with a t but he had to see him so that he new were to go.

1. While Odysseus and his men we're at Thrace they came upon the cyclopes, who was the son of Poseidon. They first came upon the cyclopes when they wandered into his cave, the cyclopes put a huge bolder in front of the round entrance.

3. Odysseus tricks the cyclopes by first taking the time to sharpen a long stick which they would use to poke the creatures one eye out. The loud roar of his pain frightened them so terribly, they all jumped to their feet preparing themselvs to escape. The cyclopes felt his way to the door and pushed the bolder. Odysseus and his men escaped by holding on to the sheep and sneeking under the cyclopes. Odysseus then reveals his pride by yelling..."it is I Odysseus who has blinded you.

4. The step is vital because it will determine whether or not he can return to Ithica or remain in Aaeaea.

5. The challenge of the nobles is very important because he must try to get his land back, his wife. And most importantly, peace amongst his land again.

1.When Odysseus and his men went to Thrace they saw a cave so they went inside and they found cheese and wine but they had no idea that the cave belonged to the son of Poseidon.When he came back from taking his sheep out he was very angry so he locked them in by putting a giant bolder in front of the entrance.The next day Odysseus made a plan to make a sphere and stab the giant in his eye.So they did this and he opened the entrance knowing that they would try to escape and he would catch them but they hid under sheeps skin and they got away.
2.The lotus eaters symbolize that Odysseus is wise and he is a fast thinker.
3.Odysseus tricks the cyclops by giving him wine and making him fall asleep so that they could plan to hurt him and escape.They also tricked him by hiding under sheeps as they escaped.
4.The journey was important because it made Odysseus realize that his pride wasn't as important as his family and his life.
5.It is important for Odysseus to face the nobles so that he could win his family and his land back.
