1) The main Idea of the story is to explain why we have the seasons Winter and Spring in ancient Greek terms. For as stated,” for three months of the year Persephone has to live with her dark king, under the earth. In those short, hard days, nothing grows upon earth. Demeter mourns for her daughter In a dress of frost and snow. When the girl Is restored to her, Demeter’s heart grows light again. Spring comes, and blossoms. After this the summer opens out in glory, and then the rich harvest appears. Only when Hades claims his queen again does the year begin to sicken and die. Then people remember Persephone, and they remember too that the dark and cold are only for a season and that the winter woods always contain the promise of a new spring.” Every time Persephone leaves Demeter causes winter time for three months then its spring when she returns.
2) Demeter is very strict and powerful and very loving and protective of Persephone. As found in the story,” Demeter was the most powerful of all the goddesses; she ruled over every living thing on earth, and without her nothing would grow. Zeus knew that she would never agree to let her daughter marry Hades, and he feared her anger if he dared ask such a question.”
3) The White narcissus was created by Zeus to attract Persephone. This is supported by this quote,” Zeus had conspired with Hades to help him trap her, and now, at her feet, she saw a most marvelous plant appear from nowhere. It was a white narcissus with a hundred flowers growing from Its root, a thing so lovely and so fragrant that not only mortals but the gods themselves wondered at it.”
4) Persephone can’t be completely free from Hades because she had eaten three seeds from a pomegranate. As stated “So they returned joyously to earth, and Persephone was restored to her mother’s arms. But then the goddess drew back, for the stain of a fruit was upon the girl’s mouth. “Did you eat In the underworld?” she asked fearfully. “Only a few seeds from a pomegranate,” answered the Innocent Persephone. Then Demeter knew that Hades had tricked them, for whoever eats food In the kingdom of the dead cannot ever escape from It.”
5) Zeus made an agreement to let Persephone stay in the Underworld for three months (one month for each seed she ate) causing Demeter to Mourn causing winter, then the rest of the year there is spring, summer, and autumn when Persephone is with her mother. This quote states,” So Zeus made a pact with his brother, and for three months of the year Persephone has to live with her dark king, under the earth. Then people remember Persephone, and they remember too that the dark and cold are only for a season and that the winter woods always contain the promise of a new spring.”
Echo and Narcissus
1) Hera became angry with Echo because,” when her sisters planned secret fun or mischief, and sometimes even when Zeus sought other company, Echo would be sent to amuse Hera, craftily to hold her attention with some long tale so that the goddess would forget to be jealous and watchful.”
2) The prophecy,”So long as he knows not himself he shall live and be happy.” Means that as long as he doesn’t see himself he will not fall in love with himself and do something nutty and continue to be happy and alive.
3) Narcissus fell in love with his reflection. He seemed to love it more than anything in the world. This quote states,” t these words he reached down and tried to clasp the figure in his arms. But when he broke the surface of the water the figure
vanished. The youth drew back, thinking he had been over-hasty, and waited a while. Then the ripples died away and the face appeared again as clear as before, looking up at him longingly from the water. Once again he bent and tried to clasp the figure, and once again it fled from his embrace. Time after time he tried, and always the same thing happened, and at last he gave up in despair, and sat looking down into the water.”
4) Narcissus died by drowning as stated,” Teardrops fell from his eyes, and the face in the pool looked up weeping and in seeming longing and despair. The longer he looked, the more fiercely did the flame of love burn in his breast, till at length Narcissus could bear no more. Determined to reach the desire of his heart or die, he threw himself from the bank into the pool, thinking that in the depths, at any rate, he would find his love. But what he found, among the weeds and stones at the bottom of the pool, was death, and he knew not that it was his own face he had seen reflected in the water below him.”
5) The kind of person I would describe as Narcissistic is someone who loves themselves only. As stated ,“After a while, when his anger had somewhat cooled, Narcissus noticed for the first time the clear pool beside him, and bent over the edge of the bank to drink. As he held out his hand to take the water, there looking up towards him was the fairest face he had ever seen. Narcissus, who had never yet known the pangs of love, at last fell in love, and his heart was set on fire by the face in the pool. With a sigh he held out both arms, and the figure also held out its two arms to him, and Echo from the rock sighed in answer to his sigh. When Narcissus saw the figure stretching out towards him and heard the sigh, he thought that his love was returned, and he bent closer to the water and whispered, “I love you.”

Persephone
1. The main idea of he story is to show principles. One of them is to ask and respect other peoples decisions. Another of them is to respect their freedom, don’t take over them, and don’t try to make them do what you want. The point is you can’t just have everything go just the way you want it, because the decision doesn’t just depends on you. Because when it involves other people you cant decide for them.
2. Demeter is kind, lovely, but she can also be harmful when it comes to family members. She is very powerful and she is determined of what she wants. An example is, when she said she wanted her daughter Persephone back she did what she could to get her back.
3. The white narcissus with a hundred flowers groin from its root came rom Zeus power.
4. Persephone can’t be completely free from Hades, because she ate some seeds from the under world. When you eat something from the under world you can never come out of there again.
5. Zeus had to make a comprimise with Hades, the he would let Persephone come to the under world for thre days in those three day every thing would dry out, because Demeter was really mad.

1.The main idea of the story "Persephone" is to explain the seasons. "Then people remember Persephone, and they remember too that the dark and cold are only for a season and that the winter
woods always contain the promise of a new spring." Another quote would be,
When the girl Is restored to her, Demeter’s heart grows light again. Spring comes, and blossoms. After this the summer opens out in glory, and then the rich harvest appears. Only when Hades claims his queen again does the year begin to sicken and die.

2. What Demeter is like. 1. Powerful. "Demeter was the most powerful of all the goddesses; she ruled over every living thing on earth, and without her nothing would grow." 2. Grieved. "Demeter also heard the echo of her daughter’s voice, from far away, on Mount Parthenia, and she set off at once to find her, wandering over the earth, not stopping to eat or drink, and taking no rest." 3. Angry. "Demeter’s grief turned to rage."

3. The flower came from Zeus and Hades. "Zeus had conspired with Hades to help him trap her, and now, at her feet, she saw a most marvelous plant appear from nowhere. It was a white narcissus with a hundred flowers growing from Its root, a thing so lovely and so fragrant that not only mortals but the gods themselves wondered at it."

4. Persephone can not be completely free from Hades because he tricked her by giving her fruit that bindes her to the kingdom of the dead. "for the stain of a fruit was upon the girl’s mouth. “Did you eat In
the underworld?” she asked fearfully.

“Only a few seeds from a pomegranate,” answered the Innocent Persephone. Then Demeter knew that Hades had tricked them, for whoever eats food In the kingdom of the dead cannot ever escape from It.

6. Hera became angry with Echo because Echo tricked Hera. "But at last the black day of reckoning came when Hera found out the trick Echo had so often played upon her, and the fire of
her wrath flashed forth like lightning.

7. This means that as long as he doesn't see his reflection he will be happy. "Determined to reach the desire of his heart or die, he threw himself from the bank into the pool, thinking that in the depths, at any rate, he would find his love. But what he found, among the weeds and stones at the bottom of the pool, was death, and he knew not that it was his own face he had seen reflected in the water below him. Thus were the words of the blind prophet fuffilled: “So long as he knows not himself he shall live and be happy.”

8. Narcissus fell in love with himself as his reflection appeared in the water. "As he held out his hand to take the water, there looking up towards him was the fairest face he had ever seen. Narcissus, who had never yet known the pangs of love, at last fell in love, and his heart was set on fire by the face in the pool. With a sigh he held out both arms, and the figure also held out its two arms to him, and Echo from the rock sighed in answer to his sigh. 9. Narcissus dies because he jumps to the rocky bottom in hopes to find his love. "He threw himself from the bank into the pool, thinking that in the depths, at any rate, he would find his love. But what he found, among the weeds and stones at the bottom of the pool, was death."

10. A narcissus is someone who cares only about themselves, and even when they think that they have fallen in love, it is really only themselves that they are in love with.

3. Persephone saw “a white narcissus with a hundred flowers growing from its root.” Where did it come from?it came out of the ground
4. Why can’t Persephone be completely free from Hades?because she ate the underworld food
5. What compromise was arranged between Zeus and Hades? What effect does this have on earth?he was going ot give her back but he had her for some of the year to be with him until the spell wore off and it left earth half of the year without crops and food and had to save up because demeter was taken from her mother.

1. The main idea of this story is how the seasons were made. It’s about how Hades loves Persephone. Since he knew her mother, Demeter, would never let him marry her. So he kidnaps her and Demeter starts to get depressed and doesn’t help anything grow, Zeus sends his son to talk to Hades and brings Persephone back. Since she had eaten some food she had to be going back to Hades, whenever Hades sends for her it gets cold and nothing grows but when she gets her daughter back it starts getting warm and things start to grow again.

2. Demeter is a very strong person that wants the best for her daughter. she is like all mothers who will mourn for a child’s lost and even go into depression’s left Mount Olympus, where the gods lived, disguised herself as an old woman, and went to Eleusis, where she built a temple and spent long days there, mourning and weeping for her lost daughter. She comes of as a strong person that can easily be broken down.

3. The white narciuss roots came from the Land of the Dead. But, as her fingers closed on it, the mountain split open with a terrible roaring noise, and from the depths came Hades riding on his black chariot, pulled by huge black horses.

4. Persephone isn’t completely free from Hades because you can’t eat anything in the Land of the Dead or else you can’t escape it. Then Demeter knew that Hades had tricked them, for whoever eats food in the kingdom of the dead cannot ever escape from it.

5. The compromise was that Persephone was to live with Hades for three months. For those three months nothing grows on the earth and it is cold outside.

6. Hera became angry with Echo because she had repeated the things that Hera thought were only said to her. “The gift with which thou hast deceived me shall be thine no more,” she cried. “Henceforward thou shalt be dumb till someone else hath spoken, and then, even if thou wilt, thou shalt not hold thy tongue, but must needs repeat the last words thou hast heard.”

7. “So long as he knows not himself,” I think it means that as long as he doesn’t find love and knows how he is he will not be in trouble.

8.Narcissus fell in love with Echo, he couldn’t really see her but everything he said she would repeat .

9.Narcissus dies when he sees Echo in the water and he jumps in and he drowns.

10.I would describe Narcissus as someone who only cares about himself and what he wants. He seems like the kind of person who will go to extremes just to get what he wants.
