The Golden Fleece

Jason and his heroes set out on their quest.

Directions: Read the myth of Jason and The Golden Fleece and then answer the following questions using complete sentences and at least on quote from the story for each answer. The questions may also be found for downloading here.
1. King Pelias gives Jason one reason to go after the Golden Fleece. What
might be another reason, one that he won’t admit?
2. Explain the phrase “but not one of the heroes lost heart.”
3. What does Jason mean when he says, “There are worse things than
death”?
4. Why do you think a great stone thrown in the midst of the warriors
would cause them to turn on one another?
5. What was Medea’s personal struggle in this story? What was her final
decision?

1. another reasons is that all that have gone after the fleece have perished and he hopes he will also die. "The shade of Phrixus has appeared to me. He has implored me to bring back to Greece the golden fleece of that sacred ram..."
2. it means that they all remained as determined as ever. “but not one of the heroes lost heart.”
3. he meant that there are worse punishments than death. “There are worse things thandeath”
4. i think they turned on each other because maybe since they were made of magic that was a signal for them to attack each other "immediately they turned on one another. To the last man they perished in that bloody war."
5. her struggle was that she wanted to help Jason but she did not want to betray her father in the end she chose Jason "She feared her father, but she also feared what might befall her if she fled with Jason."

3.He meant that some punishments are worst than death because they will feel hurt so he's saying that dying is better than feeling pain.

2."But not one of the heroes lost heart" is, what I think, saying that not one of the heroes wimped out.
3.Jason means when he says "there are worse things that death "is probably meaning coming back a faliure would be worse than dieing trying.
4.they turned on each other because since they were made out of magic that, that was a sign for them to fight one another.

1) Another reason is that all the people that have gone after the fleece have perish and the king thinks that Jason will die as well.
2) The phrase "but not one of the heroes lost heart" means that even though they knew how dangerous it was they never gave up or lose hope. They were always extremely optimistic.
3) "There are worse things than death" in this statement Jason meant that there are other things more painful that can hurt you more than death.
4) I think they turned on each other because since the stone was made of magic it was a signal to attack each other. "immediately they turned on one another. To the last man they perished in that bloody war."
5) I think that her personal struggle was that she wanted to hepl Jason but, at the same time she was afraid to betray her father. She decided to go to greece with Jason.

2. The phrase “but not one of the heroes lost heart.” Means that they didn’t turn back and courageously went on.
3. What Jason means when he says, “There are worse things than
death.” Is that cowardice is worse than dying by trying to succeed at least.
4. A great stone thrown in the midst of the soldiers would make them think that, the rock is the enemy and when they try to attack the rock they kill each other instead.
5. Medea’s personal struggle is that she falls in love with Jason and wants to help him overcome the hard tasks, but does not want to betray her father. Finally, she decided to help him and leave with him back home to get married to him.
